Plenty of power for taking apart a shed
As a newbie to the world of power tools (the fanciest I had was an electric screwdriver), I did a lot of research before purchasing this saw. The saw had plenty of power and as long as you use the best blade for the job, the battery life is good. The first time, the battery only lasted about 10 minutes, but this seemed to be a combination of inexperienced user and first time battery drain. Since then, I have been super pleased with both the power and battery life of this saw. My wife and I cut apart most of a shed simply using a hammer and this saw! I would highly recommend it to any first timer when it comes to demo!

This saw is great. The 5 AH battery alone makes this the package to buy. The battery life with that is amazing. With the correct blade, this thing powers through anything. I’ve used is on shrubs, metal pipes, tree branches, downspouts… The compact size is nice for tight spots. I noticed in reviews before purchasing that some complained about the kick and vibration. Obviously some of that will depend on what you are sawing, but it’s a saw, they will all have some of that. As long as you are using it properly it’s not bad. I’m a decent sized human being at 6’2″ and 215 pounds but even smaller people shouldn’t have to fight it too much.

Very well designed saw, great quality
Great tool, DeWalt really did their homework on the ergonomics of this saw. It’s a huge improvement over the older style, and I especially like the fact that you can mount the blade in all four directions, not just up and down as in the older model. One of the first things I used it for was to remove the glued-down sheet vinyl in a 5×8 bathroom, using a scraper blade. The saw stood right up to the job, although it did take two batteries to finish it up.Since it is shorter than the old model, you can also fit it into more restricted spaces, especially between 16 inch studs. Well worth the money.

Best cordless saw yet!
I have owned several cordless reciprocating saws. 12 volt Dewalt, 14.4 volt Dewalt, 18 volt Dewalt, 20 volt Dewalt. 12 volt Milwaukee,18 volt Milwaukee. This one however is exceptional because of the balance and size. I do custom audio video work and I’m often precariously balanced on a ladder and can only use one hand for the saw. The balance and angle of the saw helps immensely. I also use it around the yard for cutting trees although I don’t think that that is the designed application of this tool. The only feature I would want from the old DeWalt cordless saws is the adjustable foot. you used to be able to extend the foot on the other saws. This one however is fixed.

Who says you can’t buy love?
I bought this as a gift for my husband, and as long as DeWALT is in business, our marriage is secure. He loves it. (And me.) In asking him what he likes about the reciprocating saw, his response is immediate, “I love the quick-change blades. No more messing around with allen wrench. It has plenty of power, and swap out batteries, you can go all day.”That’s the report from the home front. Carry on. (If you have found my review helpful, I’d really appreciate if you would click the “Helpful” button. Thanks so much for reading! Liz)

Works as good as any I have had plugged into the wall.
I have only used it a few times so far, seems to have plenty of power, feels like it is plugged into the wall in comparison to other battery operated ones I have used in the past. Some complained of the vibration being excessive. I found if I have it pressed against the item I am cutting the vibration and shaking is minute, but is excessive when held without contact. Overall I find it very handy to be able to grab and go without worrying about long extension cords.I have no endorsements pro or con with this product, I recieved no discounts. I am just your average do it your self home owner.

Love the saw.
Got the saw today. Shipping was beyond SLOW. Took 1 day to deliver after it finally shipped…but took 5 days before it shipped. As far as the saw, I really like it. Have already cut down a small tree stump appx 7″ in diameter and cut off several limbs up to 3″ in diameter. There is some vibration, but nothing excessive. Blade and battery change out is quick and easy. The saw has already paid for itself in what I saved doing this myself instead of hiring someone to cut them down.

Powerful, great quality tool..but heavy
This is a great quality saw with plenty of power and versatility. There were cheaper saws but I really wanted DeWalt since I’ve been really happy with my drills. I am not disappointed. My only issue is the weight, which made it challenging to make cuts while up on a ladder having to use both hands. It was hard on safety, especially with the hard kick-backs sometimes.

Best power tool in my garage.
This is without a doubt the best power tool I have purchased. I use it for hobby building projects around the house like making a surfboard rack and also for gardening. It is a beast when it comes to trimming trees and makes short work or 40 foot bamboo stalks. I used it to demo a shade awning made of 6” x 6” lumber and it tore right through it.The 5AH battery is great. My hands usually get tired right around the time I run out of juice and need to recharge.

One of my best purchases
I LOVE THIS PUPPY!!! I haven’t found anything it won’t cut and it goes with me anywhere I go. The safety switch is wonderful because it can be switched with one hand. Being able to lock it out is a real safety plus! The battery is the same as my Dewalt leaf blower so I now have a second battery for either. I’ve only needed to change batteries once, but that was my fault. I was almost done with the second day without charging it like I should have. I can’t complain about that.

I bought this for multiple reasons. My wood shop, trimming large bushes and small trees. It works great for all of those. I’m a pro woodworker of 35 years. I buy good tools now, not cheap ones. This works fantastic. It’s nice and compact, gets into small areas far better than the larger saw’s, it’s sturdy, keeps the chatter down, and lasts a fair amount of time with the 20V Lithium battery. The larger, more powerful amp battery is the way to go on this. Any tool that works as hard as this needs that battery. If you need a more compact recip saw, this is the one.

Dewalt Quality and Very Handy
I should have bought this years ago. Basically, I use this for garden and landscape use and some small wood or lumber cutting tasks. It’s perfect for tree and shrub trimming and can go anywhere. We cut our own Christmas tree every year, so a much quicker cut than in years past. Battery life is excellent.

Powerful Saw with long battery life
I’ve used this saw for several purposes now…cutting the roots from a bush that we took out of the yard…demolishing an old wooden desk for disposal…removing a ceiling joist in a garage remodel. The battery has not yet given out midway through a project. I never realized how useful this tool could be!

I purchased one of these for my son. After seeing it I decided to get one for myself. I mostly use it outside to trim trees around fencelines and to trim around the deer stands we have out on our property. Also trim our ATV trails, etc. with it I have an old corded B&D heavy duty monster which I will never get rid of but you can’t use it more than about 100′ from plug.

Hours of heavy duty battery power.
Just what I needed. Leave the chain saw alone. Great for dropping 8″ trees and smaller. Perfect when you need to be up on a ladder pruning large limbs. Attach a circular strap and climb away. Hours of battery time for heavy duty pruning. Safe and secure trigger lock.

Highly recommended!
The “5” battery is awesome. This tool is very good to have around, usually you need a recip saw for one or two quick cuts, in an odd place. This is perfect for that! Great around the yard too. Didn’t realize how nice it is to have the light on it, but really works well seeking out nails etc. Highly recommended. Wish it had a hard case instead of the soft one, hard cases last forever and protect the tool better in the truck box. This soft one might make it a year….

Seems awesome ….
Bought this to cut the old exhaust off our truck to put a new stainless one on. However managed to get the exhaust off with a pipe cutter and had no need to use this. Its still sat in its tool case all new and shiney and never used. Any excuse to buy a new tool though so I’m keeping it b/c one day I’ll be glad I have it ….

DCS387 versus DCS380/DCS385
This tool is identical in functionality to the DSC380 reciprocating saw, but the motor has been relocated to a diagonal position just in front of the trigger, shortening the tool. It’s also the cordless equivalent to the, similarly redesigned, corded DWE357.The tool DOES have the better 4-way head with quick-release latch like the DSC380, as compared to the 2-way head the lesser/cheaper DSC385 cordless saw has. It does NOT have a extending shoe of the DSC380 though due to its’ compact nature. It does swivel but doesn’t extend.I’ve attached a few photos to show the difference in relative sizes between this tool and the DCS380.My impression so far is that this saw handles/performs just like the DCS380, and you should probably just compare prices, or pick this one if that few inches of compactness is a huge deal to you. Also, if you’re buying the DSC380P1 kit, the “P” means a 5.0aH battery, while the DSC380 usually comes in a “L” kit (3.0aH) or “M” kit (4.0 aH).Hope that helps!edit 11/14/2014: I forgot to mention earlier, this tool has the LED lighting with delayed turn-off, it’s located just below the moving head of the tool, and shines through the inside of the shoe’s cutout for the head. Most of my Dewalt 20V tools have this feature, and you don’t know how much you’re missing out until you try it. The DCS380 does not have this LED light.

DeWalt compact Sawzall and Upgraded Case
I originally bought this saw to cut some poly carbonate panels for a green house. While I was impressed with the saw’s cutting on this project, I was further impressed when I turned it loose on a pile of pallets and scrap wood. The saw was easy to handle, but powerful enough to cut 3 pallets into quarters in a matter of minutes. It took longer to load the scraps for the dump than it did to cut them. Then I went to work pruning some low tree branches. I was buzzing through branches too big for a regular saw, but too hard to get at with a chain saw. And on one battery! I am very happy with this purchase. It is a great small to intermediate cutting tool.I also bought a double 5AH battery set for this saw and my DeWalt circular saw. Since the soft case was not big enough for the extra battery, I bought a hard case for a DCS380 or 385 on 3Bay and cut it to fit the DCS387. Now there is plenty of room for everything in the case.

Small, compact & does the job fast and clean!
Wow, what a great tool! Easy to change blades and manipulate two different directions (vertical & horizontal), so simple. I purchased this to help with replacement of my decking & stair boards. Changing between the bi-metal and wood blades, both short and long blades, easy. The overall shorter tool length helped me easily access some of the more tight spaces I was working in. The battery was somewhat challenging to get it into the charger to properly charge. A bit finicky in how it sat in and acknowledged the charger. Took me a moment to situate it properly as to get a full charge. That said I would highly recommended this saw. If your a professional I suggest to buy an extra battery as to not run out.

You won’t be disappointed with it’s performance but understand that it produces significantly …
The saw does have plenty of power to get the job done. I’ve seen some reviews complaining about the “feedback” or vibration from the saw. I will say that this saw will cause arm fatigue from the vibration. It’s lightweight. So, unlike the bulkier heavier reciprocating saws, this saw has nothing to dampen the vibration inherent with this type of tool. You won’t be disappointed with it’s performance but understand that it produces significantly more vibration than your old plug in sawzall. The pistol grip is a little cumbersome for my hand. I keep wanting to put my thumb on top of the grip instead of holding it in a more traditional way. So, for the uncomfortable pistol grip, something I don’t experience with my old reciprocating saw, and the heavy vibration, I gave the saw 4 stars. While cautioning about these two concerns, I’d still recommend the saw.

Same as all the other reviews
This thing works. Pretty much enough said.I took it out of the box and plugged in the battery and I started cutting. I read reviews about the charger, those people need to push the battery all the way down. If you can’t do that maybe you shouldn’t run machinery.

Like a knife through butter
I am a 5’3″ woman who has never worked with a power saw before.Got it delivered and tried to cut something not too hard.It vibrated so bad I though my hand would get paralyzed. Of course, I was very upset thinking that I would not be able to use it after all 5 star reviews read. Well, I figured this must be a known issue or, possibly, I was doing it the wrong way.Turned out, the latter was correct. Once you start pushing the show into what you are cutting, vibration goes away! I can even cut with one hand if the show is pushed firmly against a tree branch. Have been working with this saw for a week now, cleaning up an overgrown patch on my property: it cuts branches and roots like a knife through butter. Very pleased with this purchase.

Cut the cord
I had an old sawzall and it had a hex key chuck which I just hated. I decided to give this saw a try and also cut the cord. It has been great. It is small so it gets in tight places and just as powerful as my corded version. This started me buying other 20 volt dewalt tools to leverage the high cost of the battery. The cordless hedge trimmers are also a great tool and without the cord you can cover a large area with being held back. I also purchased the blower which is good but not as powerful as the gas one we have. But for a touch up, it is great.

Solid performer.
Well my son “borrowed” my plug in R-saw. I wanted this to work outside on some fencing, and up in the woods for various projects. While there is some shake it is much less than my other saw. Power seems to be there at least when cutting 4×6 boards. Compact size allows it to fit into a Tstak tool box which was a plus. There was a nylon case that I think could get wet easily but most that won’t be an issue. If you work on inside projects not an issue, but I think it will wear out. Did some work with 1.25″ plastic pipe and had to cut a lot of it. This worked well and left very smooth edges. The thought I had at the time was “Smooth, like cutting butter.” I would not hesitate to get this saw.

Versatile and Effective Power Tool!
I purchased this for pruning decorative trees (instead of my 14″ chainsaw) and it doesn’t disappoint. I upgraded the battery to the longer life (5 amp) version, and it rarely requires a charge. This thing definitely has the cutting power you need in a reciprocating saw without the burdensome wires. And c’mon, it’s DeWalt, sooo…enuf said, right!?! I would definitely purchase again and recommend to anyone who appreciates a quality cordless power tool. It’s been accidentally dropped a few times, and the only thing that happened was a broken blade. The housing seems to take quite a beating and the tool functions flawlessly.

Performs like a corded saw, 5 amp Battery lasts very long time
Was a little skeptical because of experience with older battery saw. This Dewalt is light years ahead. It is very light, easy to handle and maneuver. Battery really lasts a long time. Cuts through most materials very easily and quickly. What more can I say, I’m a Dewalt fan.

Don’t buy the 20V line, for you want to buy more!
I bought this saw, for I had to cut a bunch of iron bolts at the ceiling. The first experience was moderate, for I wasn’t used to work with this type of saw.But after a few days of works I learned how to position the saw to get the best results.Ans after more than a month working with this sawsall, my findings are the following:1. it really saws everything (iron, wood, branches) as long as you keep the saw firm to the objectto protect unexpected trembling2. for wood it is useful for raw sawing , not in a straight line (better use a circsaw instead)3. my best experience with this saw was pruning (with the Bosch blades). This is really awesome. I wish I had discovered this a few years earlier.Easily cuts branches up to 4-5 inches, like a hot knife in butter. The bad thing?I bought more of the 20V Dewalt (cordless is so easy) devices and I didn’t regret it.update March 2:Five stars instead of four. Did a lot of pruning, even trees that were bigger that my longest blade. When working long, the trembling will tiresome, but the job is done excellent!Great device, especially for pruning.

Works like it’s big brother
After 30 years of using my corded Milwalkee, it died. I could not find the part I needed to fix so I decided to go cordless. I have several Dewalt 20v tools already. Unless someone else’s tool was really special I was going 20v Dewalt. There were 3 options. I don’t get into heavy stuff anymore so my 1st choice would have been the smallest one. But it only has a 5/8 stroke. This one and the larger one have a 1-1/8 stroke. That’s what did it for me and and it soon became clear it was the right choice.

Nice tool. I had the regular 20v Sawzall and had problems with the wires breaking and needing to be re-soldered. I ordered this one and so far so good. It gets into tighter spaces and the 4 way blade mounting was feature I didn’t realize it had but found it to be useful. We’ll see how well it holds up. I haven’t had this item long but I love it. I had to take out 5 old metal electrical boxes. I was able to cut through all of them in seconds. It doesn’t vibrate as much as others I have used in the past and is very easy to hold and use. The light is the reason I chose this one (compact version) over the regular one and I’m glad I did. I would highly recommend this to any homeowner that needs on.

Small in stature, big on power.
Perfect little tool. But don’t be mistaken this little guy boosts some power. Used it right out the box with no problem. The one thing I am not keen on is it does not have spring eject on the saw so you will be grabbing a hot bit, not ideal, but not a deal breaker either.
