The Detailed Review
Taking a chance, I bought four of these long planters. At their current price, that’s a lot of money. Overall, 4 stars. Why not 5? Read on.They were delivered a day early, to my surprise. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. Now if you have a workshop and a waist high workbench complete with a couple of clamps and leveling wedges, then this can be a one person job. If all you have is an electric screwdriver and a flathead manual screwdriver, then you WILL need a second person to keep things lined up.You ‘may’ need a hammer. More on that in a bit.I included a photo of a badly machined lug-nut for one of the screw types. I hate this screw type. Lining up the lug in the hole is hard because of wood dust and/or wood slivers on the bottom hole that can’t be seen and you have to clean it out before the thing will line up. They would have been much better off using a wood-tapping large screw to attach the divider instead of this set up. A lot less hassle. Why is it a hassle? Because the wood slats has to line up perfectly three layers deep or you can’t get it threaded. Period. Yuck. Got it done, but what a time consuming monster that was. The instructions say 45 minutes to complete. More like 3 hours due to this slightly bad design. Two of the bottom panels were slightly warped. Had to use a little force to get it to fit on the end piece and use a hammer to gently tap it into place. The other panels were straight as an arrow and didn’t need ‘help’ getting to slide down the grooves. Now for the good stuff!I used Thompson Water-Seal that dries clear to water proof the wood after construction was done. That alone will add many more years to its usability, and since I got the longest planter the company makes, at $179 per planter, you want your investment to last as long as possible. The bottom slats are supposed to have gaps in them! Why? Use a garden liner, but in a pinch, normal newspaper works too. Better drainage, much less chance of root rot or other pesky diseases. These tables are sturdy! They’re not going to tip over easy, and make sure you have them organized as you desire before filling them with dirt, because once you get to that stage, they’re heavy as all get-out, which is expected.Later this year when I save a little more cash, I’ll probably buy two more as I wanted six tables total for what I’m going to grow. After assembling 4 tables, I pretty much feel like an expert now, lol, but more realistically, the construction is simple in the process, it’s just the dang lining up the slats for the lug nut thing that really messes it up. It’s not a deal breaker, just a pain in the butt.

Good Height
We purchased this as a garden box for our toddler grandchild. It is a good height for her and would be a great height for us to use to plant veggies. It seems pretty sturdy and certainly is nice looking.

Looks nice
The directions were good EXCEPT on how to connect the two sections. Not clear at all. Causes some stress but I figured it out. Better instructions would have saved me an hour time in assembly. Very pleased with finished product BUT the connection problem took fun out. Directions need redesigned on that area

Well made and sturdy
I wanted something high enough to keep the rabbits from eating the lettuce. This was reasonably priced and is made of sturdy materials. It was not that hard to put together even for this old lady. They say one person and 45 mnutes, but it took me three hours and I needed some holding help at times. I also needed my power screw driver! It is attractive and a great height for working without bending over. I may get another one.

Wanted to be excited about this raised bed
These are my first raised beds as I’ve container gardener for years. So many good reviews I settled on this company. Instructions were very simple and wood seemed such good quality until I found one of the long pieces, the side pieces had a hairline crack. I just didn’t want the hassle of returning. I’ll just box it up and seek another brand. Do not recommend.UPDATE!!: I contacted the company and voiced my concerns about the damaged wood. I inquired about a simple part replacement. Customer Service was extremely professional, empathic and apologetic. They did not offer me a replacement piece. They offered a new raised bed, and I didn’t have to return current bed! I am floored! I accepted and a new raised bed was shipped! Will definitely continue to buy from this company on a regular basis from this day forward!

Nice and sturdy and a nice size
Overall I’m pleased with this raised bed. It really needed 2 people to put it together, but that might just have been because I’m a senior and don’t bend well anymore. After putting in a few screws by hand (per directions) I went for my electric screwdriver because my hand was getting pretty sore from hand screwing in without predrilled holes in the pieces making up the bed. But it’s together now and filled with dirt. It’s really windy where I live most of the year and the fabric had to be stapled in place because I ran out of garden soil to fill it to the top, but with my electric stapler that was a piece of cake. I love the height – since I can no longer get down on my knees most raised beds are still too low, but this one is the perfect height for my 5’. If I’d been smart I’d have purchased some wheels for it so I could move it without putting stress on the legs. It’s not hard to slide around on concrete, even filled with dirt, but I’d like to move it off my patio and now that it’s full I seriously doubt I could move it in the yard without putting too much stress on the legs and possibly making it a bit wobbly. The wood is softer than I was expecting so I hope it hold up to the weather.

Very nice, would buy again!
Took longer to coat all the pieces than putting it together – putting it together took about half an hour. Suggest a rubber mallet, as the dovetail joints were snug – which is a GOOD thing. So, since I also own the “rustic” Gronomics elevated beds, thought I would comment on the similarities/differences. Both IMO are excellent products, and nicely allow you to simply put large potted plants out to serve as a screen without violating HOA rules – and, one day, I can take my trees and shrubs with me. It’s also a great place to put house plants out for the season. To my surprise, the lining for this product is actually seamed and fitted, not just a swath of landscaping cloth like the Gronomics product – a nice surprise, even if it was a tad smelly. Overall, I’d say the same-sized Gronimics elevated bed is more “robust” tho I don’t mean this is a flimsy product. The posts of the rustic Gronomics bed are thicker, heavier, and the top caps larger and screw in as opposed to pushing in with dowels. But the rustic Gronimics boards are “rough finished” while all of the Best Products boards were smooth, and nicely beveled. Actually, the Best Products elevated bed has tighter joins than the Gronomics beds I purchased. Both products I purchased need a coating of oil or some sort of weatherproofing, unless you want the wood to age fast. The cedar of the Best Choice product seemed softer than the Gronomics, and with both I had very minor splintering on a few board ends.At the moment I have 5 potted miniature citrus and two large potted hibiscus sitting in this elevated bed, and hope to make some wire arches and drape w. plastic so I can keep the citrus out longer as the weather cools, as the plants dislike coming indoors for the winter. As for this specific product, I’d buy again – it’s very attractive – the color of the picture shown is pretty much what I received, and oiling the wood just made it look richer in color. In looking around, IMO the current price is very good and I’d buy another if I had room. Overall, I’d say the Gronomics product may be slightly more robust (and I do like the thicker posts and large wood caps of the Gronomics product) but can’t say you’d go wrong purchasing this product either. Very happy with this purchase. Perhaps this product was imitating Gronomics or some other product, but if it’s some sort of “knock-off” IMO it’s a good one – sturdy, attractive, functional. And at the moment, an excellent price, as I’d seen Gronomics and other elevated beds sold as high as $300 online – worth shopping around!

Nice planter but wood will expand
We have two of these planters and really like them. They are sturdy, attractive and a nice addition to our greenhouse. We did have a problem with the one from last year which was unexpected. The base plates expanded so greatly that they pushed the legs out of their slots on one side of the planter; with the screws ripping through the wood tangs that held it together. The wood was wet for an extended period of time and we didn’t notice the damage until we moved it late this winter. We disassembled that side, shortened one of the base plates by an inch and a half, and reassembled it. We will probably cut the base plates on the new planter we just ordered to take this into account.

Pretty good!
It’s light weight and feels a bit flimsy, but it does its job. I feel it absolutely needs to be stained. I put three coats of stain on mine and I think it turned out pretty good. I suspect it’ll last a few years. For the price, not bad.

Created new and interesting swears upon assembly
Once these guys are together they work great. But getting to that point, well let’s just say that my neighbor now knows how vast my vocabulary is…I said more swear words than I think he realized existed. First of all pay SUPER GOOD ATTENTION to the pictures in the directions or you’ll have to take everything apart like I did. So that was my experience with the first one. Some of the holes didn’t line up quite right, I thought that was my fault because I had f&$*£© it up the first time around. So with the second one I was super careful about putting it together exactly right…and the holes still didn’t line up correctly. I ended up exposing a cute little old lady that grows zinnias next to me to more curses. Honestly she probably knew them all, but let me live in my delusional world. Anyways, I finally said f&€@ it and left the bolts and crap where it was. Honestly, again, once together, they are a delight and look and smell fantastic. But only purchase this if you are in an isolated area away from children so you can let the f word fly.

Looks nice
There was a few non matching stain brush strokes to cover up the filler they used pretty obvious and the bottom base was clearly too short and had about a 3 inch extra gap. We fived it by adding scrap piece of wood and stapled landscaping fabric to the bottom.

Nice planter
This is a nice sturdy planter that will hold a decent amount of plants. It’s roomier than I thought it would be. I put it together myself with a little difficulty and had to take 1 end apart and redo it but otherwise not too bad. I also used some water seal on it and sprayed varnish on the outside only. After all it is just pine and needs some help to stand up to the weather

Expensive but worth the money!
Not quite as easy to put together as the video stated, but maybe because I am an 82 year old woman! It took me 40 minutes, and then an hour to stain both, but well worth the time spent.

Just like the picture
Just assembled it yesterday. Looks exactly like advertised. Assembly instructions were sometimes jumbled, I had to undo screws and jump to another step, then go back and tighten. A little frustrating. Got for my greenhouse and it’s still early to tell, but looks like it’s going to do for what I wanted.

Somewhat Easy Assembly, Very Sturdy
Four months later, the first raised bed is showing signs of splitting along the top rail of one end and its adjoining end cap. We don’t know if ground settling is causing this, or if the wood was too immature when it was harvested. The liners are disintegrating, literally breaking apart in the sunshine. Plan on an alternate means of keeping the soil in the beds would be prudent. Next year, we’re thinking of plain old “get at WalMart” garden cloth, or seeing about getting the kind of cloth GrowBags are made from.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This is the second post regarding this product’ the first one is listed below. We bought an additional two units, and the mortises (the parts where there is a slit cut so that the panels can be inserted) were “blown out” instead of ending at the point where they were supposed to. With an extra-heavy application of wood glue and additional long wood screws, we were able to put this together. Be prepared to need to adjust how the assembly goes, and to anticipate needing additional screws and heavy duty wood glue, and have them on hand and ready to go.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It’s a rainy day out, so hubby decided to assemble this in the sunroom. He laid everything out according to the directions and made certain all the pieces parts were there. The directions were clearly written and easy to follow. It took about half an hour for him to assemble the basic pieces, and he only needed about 15 minutes of my assistance to slide the bottom panels in and fasten the last end assembly. There were more fasteners than were needed to complete the project, a pleasant surprise. The liner looks adequate for the planter depth; we will need to get some staples to fasten it to the sides and ends. It could have been a bit deeper, but liner material is inexpensive enough should we decide to purchase more.As suggested in several videos we watched, he used some TiteBond Wood Glue on the legs, end caps, and mortise & tenon joinery, leaving the bottom panels with the drainage holes to float freely. Tomorrow we are going to use some Thompson’s Water Seal to make sure that this investment lasts several years. At only 28 pounds, this is light enough for me to move into the position we want. Once placed on the brick pavers we bought, and after filling the bed with dirt, this bad girl isn’t going anywhere. It is solid, sturdy, and doesn’t move when “jiggled”.OK, here’s the bad part: we have to wait until payday to get several more of these raised beds. It is a well-made product, and a good bargain. Yes, we did add about $30 to the project (glue, brick pavers, and water seal, which will be more than adequate for the next few beds we buy), but that’s nothing compared to the length of time we expect to get out of this garden bed.

Agree with other purchasers but…
I developed a headache and mild nausea while assembling my raised bed in an enclosed space. Not sure if the wood is treated but plan to wear gloves, a mask and assemble my second raised bed outdoors. Processed wood can have formaldehyde and it is impossible to check if the wood is overly processed but my reaction makes me believe it was. Did anyone else experience this reaction?

Solid construction. Easy to assemble.
The various parts are well-marked and fit together as they should. When assembled it is a solid piece and looks as if it will last for many seasons. I would suggest you have a staple-gun handy to tack up the cloth liner.

Nice planter
The stain is a nice color, it didn’t come with a liner was my only disappointment, but we used heavy black plastic and stapled it inside. The height is perfect no bending. Tricky to assemble but good directions and an extra screw in each bag in case you lose one!!

It’s alright, but not great for the price.
Drill holes are partially pre drilled, when I opened it, the smell was so strong. When drilling, small parts crack a bit and some of the wood just pushes in like a sponge almost, the screw just keeps going because the wood is so soft. I overall am concerned that this might not be able to stand the weight of a full garden let alone rain when the rains come this spring. It’s super porous with no waterproof coating

Good for Lettuce. Herbs, and Flowers
Although this Best Choice Products free-standing planter box isn’t as large or robust as another brand I own, it offers a great value. I added this to my deck next to my existing herb garden box so that I could grow slug-free lettuce in the spring. In the heat of summer, I’ll replace the lettuce with flowers. It looks good — I chose the natural cedar — but will weather to gray with time. I chose not to seal it since I will be growing edibles. For that reason, I expect it to last for maybe 5 seasons. The actual dimensions are smaller than listed. The 48″ L measurement includes the caps, but, even including the caps, the width comes to only 23″. The interior of the box — that is, the growing space — measures 46″ L x 20″ W x 10″ D. The box is large enough to grow just about any herb as well as shallow rooted vegetables (bush beans, lettuce, radishes, peas, etc.) and flowers. Depending on how high you want to fill the box, it will take at least 3 and maybe a little more 1.5 cu. ft. bags of raised bed soil. The included thin fabric liner was too high for mine, and I had to trim it to make it less visible.I like that two of the bottom slats contain drainage holes and that the slats don’t fit together tightly, leaving a couple 1/2″ gaps. This prevents the garden bed from becoming a pond in heavy rains. I can also tell when I’m watering deeply since the water starts coming out of the bottom. With the liner in place, soil does not leak with the water. The instructions say that it should take one person 20 minutes to assemble. While it is indeed easy and all the parts fit together well, I would allow 30 minutes if you use an electric screwdriver, 45 if you use a manual one. I had no problem with misaligned holes or cracked slats. Without soil, the box is light enough for one person to lift.I like this raised garden box, even if I prefer the better-built but also more expensive older one. For me, this provides a great, economical way to expand the growing space outside my back door.– Debbie Lee Wesselmann
