    Awesome for the price

I had a heavy duty barrel smoker for about 20 years. After the legs rusted out in made the mistake of throwing the whole thing out instead of making it a built in. I regretted getting rid of it ever since. I really missed the cooked over wood taste and being able to control the temperature with the larger smokers. I got tired of buying smaller BBQ’s and not getting the results that I was looking for. When I found this one I thought I would take a chance on it. I am so happy that I did. It is not the thickest material, but it has a tray that catches the ash so it will not erode the base (cool idea). It makes it super easy to clean the ash out a lot easier than scooping ash out of a heavier duty BBQ. I would not hesitate on buying this one again as it has been super durable and constant in temperature control and regaining the flavors that i really missed.

Great Beginner Grill! Make sure you SEAL all the seams first!!

This grill is fantastic!! It’s cheap and it’s a great way to break into the world of smoking. You’ll probably see a lot of reviews about this thing leaking smoking a having trouble holding a temp. They are all correct. This grill comes in 1000 little pieces, which means you’ll be assembling it yourself, which also means there are no good welds/seals to keep all the smoke in. HOWEVER, when I assembled my grill sealed every single seam and bolt hole with a sealant called lavalock. It’s basically a high temp caulk sealant. I also added high temp felt seals to the firebox door and main grill door. Those extra mods added $25 to the cost of the grill but they made all the difference! My grill doesn’t leak smoke at all and can hold a temp like the best grills out there. I smoked short ribs in it for 5 hours and they came out amazingly. The grill only needed small inputs from me to keep the fire hot as the day went on and it burned it’s fuel. This is an outstanding grill. It really is. You just have to know what you’re getting into early on and spend the extra time to make sure it’s properly sealed. Then you’ll be grilling perfectly. I also saw a few other reviews that the paint might peel; those are all old reviews. I think the company changed their painting formula because my paint didn’t peel even a little bit. Also, make sure you buy a cover (any cheap cover) and clean it out after every use so it doesn’t rust. Any smoker you buy will rust if you leave it dirty after using it. Dead coals and soot attract moisture.

Nice pretty easy to put together

So the only reason I put 4 is one of the poles to the leg was bent and any normal person wouldnt have tooken a screw driver like I did to bend it back but not a big deal easy fix still looks fresh box must have tooken a drop but in the box it’s kinda heavy awkward to carry unless there’s 2 other then that I like it way better then the Walmart one for the same price roughly this one is bigger with shelves and hooks

    Great Grill!

My husband wanted a new grill. As we’re both getting older, I wanted one that wasn’t too big and didn’t require all kinds of fancy stuff. It workds great! It appears to be very durable. It’s easy to clean and the thermometer is spot on. It’s pretty good at holding heat, he doesn’t have any major problems with it. He says it depends on how many tyimes you open it to let heat out. I would definelty recommend this grill to anyone who wants something great but not too expensive or fancy.

    Great grill

I don’t know what everyone is talking about but this grill for 100 is the best 100 I ever spent on a grill. It only took 45 minutes to build and it was simple. After building the grill one thing I know many don’t do is Season the grill but I did. It breaks the paint in keeping it from chipping and falling off. I spread vegetable oil all over the inside ever nut and bolt every single inch light some charcoal and kept the temp at about 325 for 2.5 hours and it’s good to go. One piece of advice it is a 100$ grill keop that in mind. What you do is get some rtv650 silicon withstands 650 degrees and seal the chimney and around nuts and bolts and gets some lava lock high temp BBQ gaskets coat you 20 altogether and put a strip in between the two half’s of the smoker before you bolt them together and around both doors and it’s the best grill ever. Very very roomy can probably do 18 burgers at once… Another piece if advice after seasoning clean the outside then paint it with high temp paint you can get a pint from amazon or lowes (i didnt do this never needed to).if you season right you will be good. even after a few dozen times using it if you season it correctly you should be fine….update. 2/28/21 after maybe 6 dozen uses no issues at all. The ashtray or coal tray did start to rust. You cant buy replacement from the company byt you can find one on amazon that fits fine. No complaints I’m enjoying this inexpensive sturdy grill.

There is a reason this grill only costs a little over $100

Before making this purchase I read several reviews and the bad ones kind of spooked me but I decided to give it a try because I really wanted to be able to grill and smoke, and this is all the money I could spend right now. So who was right, the positive reviews or the negative ones? Kind of both.I ordered the grill on a Friday and it arrived on a Tuesday. Assembled it Wednesday night. Assembly was very simple. First thing I noticed was that the people complaining about how thin the steel is were right, but you get what you pay for. The instructions call for the grill to be seasoned with a small fire. Another reviewer recommended to do this more than once. So between Thursday and Saturday night I built four small fires in the grill. By the time the fourth one had almost burned out I could still smell the chemical smell but it was greatly reduced.Note that the instructions say never to get the temp above 400 degrees F. They also say you can put six pounds of charcoal in the main grill body. If you use that much charcoal you will have a 700-800 degree fire. You’ll have to really play a balancing game of getting a fire big enough to cook without burning all the paint off. With the grill seasoned it was time to try cooking on it. I used just enough charcoal to cover 90% of the grill grate with one layer of coals. Temp jumped quickly to about 550, so I shut all the dampers. Cooked chicken and squash. Pleased with the way the grill performed. However, the next day when I cleaned the ashes out I noticed lots of paint had peeled off the pan that holds the grill grate. Now either it will rust or I’ll need to repaint it with a high temperature paint. YOu get what you pay for.Today I attempted using the unit as a smoker. The instructions say you can put four pounds of charcoal in the fire box, but I was scared to use that much. I probably started with 2.5-3 pounds. Put a water pan on the charcoal grate in the main grill. Got the temp up to about 200 and put ribs on. Checked about 30 minutes later temperature was 250 but the fire was dying so i stoked it. Bottom line I continued this process of adding to the fire so that the thermometer read 225-300 for about three hours. When I checked the ribs, however, they were not actually cooking. I mean they were hot to the touch, but not hot enough to render any fat out. Not sure yet how to solve this problem. I’m guessing either the thermometer is off or the product just loses too much heat due to gaps in tolerances and thin material.Overall, I think the grill is worth what it costs. I expect it to be functional for grilling and hope to figure out the smoking function. But you get what you pay for so if you can afford a higher quality cooker you should probably get one.Update. After 8 months of use there is not much paint in the main cook chamber or the fire box chamber. The carcoal pan and grate in the cook chamber are warped, rusted, and cracked. However, I am still able to use the grill very effectively–just not sure how much longer that will last. I’ve also learned that it does function fairly well as a smoker if the ambient conditions are nice and you monitor the fire very carefully. The instructions say not to use real wood in the fire box. However, I have found that if you keep a good bed of coals you can use very small splits of oak or pecan and it works well.22 month update. Had to replace the ash pan. The fire box (on the side for the smoking function) has rusted through in two places and is no longer safely functional. The grill part still works fine and we use it almost every week. The cooking grates have held up very well.I guess my recommendation has not changed–get this if it is all you can afford.

    Barbecue grill, smoker/side smoke

This product is a pretty good deal for your money but it does require at least two people to set up and there is a lot of parts and screws once you get it all set up and together for the money it’s OK be prepared to spend about 30 minutes to 45 minutes to put together kind of flimsy it’s not steel it’s all steel so it can bend very easily but if you take care of it and you put a cover on it, it should last for quite a while. Remember to clean your grill off before you put them away they’ll last longer that way can’t beat it for the price.

    Assembly

Read a number of reviews and here is our take so far:1. We wanted an inexpensive charcoal BBQ and smoker. This fit the bill.2. There are not 1000 parts to this as one reviewer mentioned, but just a little over 100 parts (including screws). The company included some extra screws. Thank you. Years ago I assembled a more complicated grill with 300-400 parts, so this wasn’t too bad.3. This took my husband and I about 3 hrs from unpacking to fully assembled. We used pliers, Philips screwdriver and Dewalt Impact Driver to assemble.4. The nuts, bolts, washers, parts were VERY easily identifiable, as all the other parts.5. The instructions were really good and fairly easily understandable. Very well written.6. Really need 2 people to assemble. Don’t need to rush. Better to do right the first time.7. This was well packed with care.Things we have yet to do before our first grilling:1. Install Lavalock gaskets to seal the grill and smoker.2. Use Lavalock silicone to seal all the nuts and screws.3. Season with veg oil all the insides/grills and go through the heating process. I think this is important. Doing this on my woks has allowed me years of great use.4. Going to paint the inside of the grill with a food grade high temp paint to help prevent rust.5. Buying a cover to protect this grill/smoker.6. Will clean after each use. This will increase the price another $75 but I think this will preserve an inexpensive grill for years. Will update with more later.

I did not like how some of the holes were tapped (6 bad ones). Also I did not like how the side smoker vent was tapped out of position. This is causing the side vent to not close properly.

    Do not Buy

The product does not come with the right size screws to complete the most of them are correct however had to buy 10 screws and nuts to hold up the smoker as they were to short as was the case in three other locations. The left side of the grill does not close all of the way down thus smoking will be a problem. Will keep it for a year then will give it away and will stay with Charboil next time as I would not buy this one again . You get what you pay for buy cheap get cheap.

    Good smoker

Great smoker especially if you love the challenge of smoking with wood chunks or lump charcoal. I would have given the grill 5 stars but be warned but a can of rustoleum high temperature paint as the factory paint on the smoke box burns off fairly quick.

    Does it’s job

Holds heat pretty well even though the design would make you think otherwise, overall pretty nice grill/smoker for it’s price. My only concern is the tray that holds the coals seems like it’s beginning to rust really fast, despite having a cover over it and never left it in out in the rain.

    Very poor instructions

If you are a MIT physicist or a NASA engineer you could probably assemble this in an hour or 2 . If you try to follow the instructions and get to step 5 and realize that some important information was left out of step number 1 and you have to redo everything you will not be very happy. Some of the drawings are easy to understand while others don’t show anywhere enough detail, in other words you are going to have to back track and redo steps.Anyway, discounting the miserable instructions the grill is well engineered and well manufactured. All the holes and fittings line up just right. One more thing. The coal grate must be in the lower position otherwise your briquets will fall through the opening along the edges.

    Can’t beat for the money

I hurried and bought this and then looked at the reviews and got worried that it was going to be a pile of garbage. Then it showed up took about 30mins to set it up and I was impressed on the quality of it Especially for $115. It’s not perfect but way worth the money I also seen a lot of reviews on the lid falling off and pulling the hinges through the sides so I was looking and noticed that all the weight is on those hinges when the lid it open so if you look in the picture i took a chain to help support the lid when open. I also got some high temp grill gasket to help seal the lid a little better. But all in all it was a very go buy

Some temperature challenges but good overall

I am pretty new to these, but this seems like a great little offset smoker for the price. Assembly was pretty straightforward, I put it together in a day. I have used it a couple times, and temperature is the main challenge. It needs some attention and frequent charcoal replenishing to keep above 200 degrees when cooking (I was aiming for between 200-300 degrees, and 300 was the highest I got it up to). Also, the temperature seems to drop quite a bit if there is any wind. Maybe I can work with some of the sealant stuff to improve it but haven’t figured that out yet. Overall it has been good for learning to smoke various things.

    Best for a budget

The people giving this bad reviews dont know how to use a grill. If you season this grill before its first use and take care of it after it is great, has no problems, and will last. Ive had it for about 2 months and have cooked on it about 80 times. Everything from fish to steak. The smoker is great as well. Definitely recommend as one of the best beginners/budget grills if you eant to be a grillmaster. Just make sure you take car of it and it will take car of you. Psa if you dont know how to season this grill you just need to coat it with vegetable oil from a spray bottle or i use webber oil ment for seasoning, then heat it to about 400 for an hour with nothing cooking. Put it out and let it cool completely. Spray it again before you cook and your good to go. Again I highly recommend, ingnor the bad reviews.

    Good value for a smoker

This grill was easy to assemble and has done a good job so far. It’s lightweight compared to really heavy duty smokers, but it does its job quite well. The ash/dripping tray is also lightweight, so it won’t last very long with regular use at which point you are left with the conundrum of getting replacement grates/etc that cost up to half the price of a whole grill.Still, if you’re looking for a low start up investment to play around with a charcoal grill and smoker this is a solid choice. If you’re looking for heavy duty gear for serious grilling and smoking then you’ll have to look elsewhere and be prepared to pay accordingly.

Not quite as strong/sturdy as I hoped, but I would still recommend

I bought this grill for my husband’s birthday. He loves it and uses it 2 or 3 times a week. The smoker feature works great. I will say that 1 time the flames flared while the lid was down and the thermometer does not work appropriately now and the paint peeled from the inside of the lid where the flames touched. I think it took several minutes for this damage to occur, but I was disappointed that it occurred at all. He continues to use the grill and enjoys it however.

    Nice Grill

I bought this grill to replace a similar, smaller grill purchased at Walmart on clearance over a decade ago. It comes packaged well with the assembly required. It arrived undamaged. The assembly instructions are clear, though some of the illustrations could be larger. Nuts and bolts are packaged very well and labeled. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to put it together.I haven’t used it yet but it looks straightforward like the usual offset charcoal grill. Looks good when it’s put together.

It works. You get what you pay for.

For $99 I didn’t expect much. It’s very very cheap quality grill. Thinnest metal imaginable. I bought mine end of May. Put it together end of June. So 1 month in and paint is already fading and rusting. The metal is so thin, it transfers the heat to the front and side shelving. They get so hot, I had a lighter melt (glad it didn’t burst into flames).Took about 90 minutes to put together and many of the holes didn’t line-up and some weren’t even drilled…such as the hinges. The ash door to the offset smoker was weird…the hinge can’t/won’t sit flat and the door latch doesn’t work because the door is in the way of the bolt hole.Having said all that…it does work. I’m able to cook off it but I already know it won’t last long.

The Royal Gourmet is a Royal Piece of Garbage

Quick edit: I did report the problem to Amazon and they were good enough to accept the return and refund with a small re-stocking fee. I’m really good with this and it’s one of the reasons I continue to use Amazon regularly! …So I absolutely loved this smoker. I used it exactly 3 times! It has passed the return policy and now I’m stuck with the Royal piece of Garbage. NOT COOL.The first picture is my Royal Gourmet. I was all happy to sit in the backyard today and smoke some ribs while playing my guitar and sipping some malted beverage. Man was I in for a surprise! The first time I cooked some hot dogs in the side smoker. Worked great as a test cook. The second time I cooked some ribs, and worked great. I was actually pretty impressed with the results. Smoker worked great, seemed like a really great deal! I was proud of my cheap inexpensive smoker. Told everyone I knew all about it!The third time the top fell off towards the end of the cook and took half the food with it. Looks like the thin metal sides weren’t able to hold the bolts that held the top in place. Pretty sure I followed the assembly instructions properly. Regardless, this should have never happened. What a complete disappointment.I honestly wasn’t expecting much for the price. I bought it to see if I enjoyed smoking meats. I figured I’d get a cheaper one hoping to get at least a summer out of it before upgrading or giving up the hobby. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to fall apart on it’s third use.I’ll contact Amazon and see if there is something I can do. Past return policy and I don’t have the box or anything any more. I’d spend a few dollars more and get a better offset smoker. This was a real disappointment and not worth the money in my opinion. Seemed like a bargain for the price but sometimes you get exactly what you pay for. This is not a good product IMHO.For the record this was stored in my garage out of the elements. There was really no reason for this to happen! Total disappointment!

    Inexpensive, NOT CHEAP!

I have several smokers, so when I decided to get a cheap one for my RV where I stay during the week for work, I chose this one.$100, what did I expect?Well, the box arrived and there were pieces everywhere, but the instructions were extremely easy to follow with very good drawings.Once I burned it in, it was time for the real test.I expected this “cheap” pit to leak air like a screen door.I was VERY SURPRISED at the way the pit burned.Very even heat, no smoke leaking from the firebox or the smoke stack. The smoke rolled over the food, causing me to need very little smoke chunks.Thoroughly impressed with this product for the price!Excellent deal for about $100.If their other products are of this quality, I would be proud to review them!!Very inexpensive, thin materials, but not “cheaply” made.Love this offset smoker!!Front shelf and side shelf are very handy.I would definitely recommend this product.

Thin metal but ok for the $$

Comes in a box and at first glance looks like it will be a real headache to put together but it wasn’t bad and the hardware kit was complete and every had a few extra pieces when all done. So good marks there.Metal is VERY thin. I don’t think this will hold up long and certainly won’t if you grill/smoke a lot but I bought this for a hunting cabin so it may last for a while w/ limited use. Be sure to burn at least half a bag or charcoal in it before trying to cook anything. Heavy chemical/paint burn off odor otherwise.Ok for the price but I think if I had it to do again, I’d pay the extra $50 for a Weber.

    For the money, it’s great!

You have to know a little of what you’re getting into when you spend only $100 on smoker. I’m a beginner, hence why I didn’t drop a ton of cash, but this works just fine for what I need. Assembly was pretty straightforward – probably easier with two people. Components can be easily scratched and dented while assembling, but who cares? Just be gentle. If you do the initial smoke prior to actually cooking, the paint seems to hold up well. The only “wear” that’s noticeable is right around the box – which makes sense because that’s where the fire is. There is definitely some heat loss – you can see that just via the smoke leaking out here and there. . So to maintain a constant temp, this will take a little more care and watch than a high end smoker. But would you expect anything else for $100? Let’s be real. The meat was still delicious! The bottom rack thing on the bottom between the legs is pretty useless, but not a big deal at all. I’ve had the smoker sitting out uncovered all summer and it still looks great!

    Great for the price

For the money, it’s pretty darn nice. The only real issue I have with it is the tray that holds the hot coals is pretty thin, and wrapped after just one use. But it still works just fine.I followed the simple instructions on how to “bake on” the paint / season the grill, and haven’t had any issue with paint flaking off like other reviewers. It does smell pretty bad while baking on the paint, can’t believe some people didn’t do it and cooked on it before properly seasoning. It’s a 100 some dollar grill with smoker, is it the best out there? Absolutely not, is it a great deal for the money, yes. If you’re expecting it to be as nice as a 400 dollar grill, I don’t know what to tell you, go buy a 400 dollar grill? Looks nice and works well. Get a cover, haven’t had any issues with rust.

I put this together alone, but it’s easier with two ppl. The grill is good, but flimsy tin material. It dents & scratches very easy, so if you decide to buy this..Be careful. Scratches was on different parts when I unboxed. Directions nope, but pics are not so great. I hope I get a $100 worth of barbecue out of this thing. It looks great, but not really strong at all.

    Decent for the price

To start…Here is the cons to this grill. Many of the nuts that were included are stripped. So, now we have to go to the hardware store to buy more nuts just to finish putting the grill together (such as the handles etc) So it’s aggravating that we have to spend more money due to faulty materials included with the grill. The grill itself is pretty nice. It is good quality for the price and it is definitely something that will last once it is completely put together.

    Shelf always falls

Got this over the summer & have only used a couple of times. The top shelf falls every time you open the lid. So if you’re cooking food on it, it dumps all of it onto the bottom & some into the coals. Very frustrating. Especially when the grease hits the coals & it causes the flames to go higher. Haven’t tried the smoker part.

You get what you pay for. Poor quality concern by employees, P*ss poor QA from company

It’s the thinnest gauge of metal you can get, weak corner welds, one of them was fractured from handling at the company as the end was slightly bowed out from carrying at the factory. Had I to do it again, I would not have purchased this.As it is my first smoker, I figure I will just practice till it rusts out later in the season (as I had read about another review). I have to put it together but not tonight. There is nothing pre-assembled. Will update about alignments later.Update 1: Okay. for a starter smoker on a budget. Not too bad. Yes, a few cosmetic defects, cheap welds, and a gap on the smoker box. It took me about an hour and half, casually to assemble. Fired it, seasoned it. First smoke tried boneless ribs and chicken thighs. Not to bad. It was easy enough to keep the temp around 350-400 F. Tweaking vents, etc. The two improvements I would like to see one day. Extend the exhaust pipe further into the chamber, temp gauge at grill level and for the smoke box, open the door wide enough to pull the charcoal tray out horizontally. Note: I thoroughly seasoned the interior and exterior with Pam. Might apply more frequently to the smoke box. Next update with photos to come. Caught a beauty 6-7lb cat, going to smoke that puppy whole with banana leaves. Upgrading rating from 2 to 4. Yeah, it has defects, room for improvement and leaks like a seethe. You want more metal, you are going to pay for it.

    Good but good price

I bought this grill for my husband as his first Father’s Day gift. Items he enjoyed on the grill were the thermometer and the smoker on the side. Although he was really happy and grateful we noticed that the smoker on the side is small which limits how much you can smoke at a time. Overall, it was an amazing buy! I might get one for my mom.

Up in smoke. 😉 in a good way! (UPDATE)

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on this smoker. For the regular guys needs, this smoker should be more than sufficient. Assembly was a little tricky but not brutal. Once together it seemed very sturdy. It was obvious right from the start that it wasn’t going to be an airtight smoker. But for an average type of user like me it really doesn’t make much difference. I coated it with olive oil spray on the racks and all over the inside. Then I put about 3 lb or so of charcoal in the offset compartment along with smoke pellets to season the inside for about 4 hours. I actually got the temp up to 400° and even though there were some obvious leaks, it held temperature surprisingly well. I was also able to somewhat control the temperature using the vent on the chimney as well as the pinwheel vent on the offset box. I can see that this unit is really well worth the money. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Do yourself a favor though and make sure to buy or make some kind of cover for it. I’m sure if left in the rain it will probably rust. I am a real Amazon customer.Update: I finally got the chance today to do a full 5-hour cook. It was really windy here. This thing comes up to temperature beautifully fast. Even with the wind howling at over 15 mph I saw very little visible leakage. I was even able to knock down the temperature using the pinwheel vent and the chimney flap. Now that I have it covered and out of the weather I’m hoping that I’ll get at least five or more years out of it. This unit way surpasses the old stand up smoker that I used to have. If you’re looking for a dependable very economical well-made smoker and Grill this is for you. I promise you won’t be disappointed. By the way, the ribs I smoked came out perfect!Update: this thing is still going strong. I’ve used it three or four dozen times so far and is holding up beautifully. For an economical smoker, I am really surprised at how evenly it holds temperature. I smoked a rack of baby backs today for 4 and 1/2 hours at between 250 and 275 and I swear they were restaurant good. Just thought I’d give an update to reinforce the original review.

The coating is already coming off after 3 times of grilling

I treated it exactly as instructed and after the first use the paint on the inside started chipping away and by the third time I used the grill the paint coating was coming off the top of the grill lid.

“Ikea” grill with alot of smoke leakage

So this is cheap enough to get the job done but also doesn’t perform very well. My unit arrived damaged dented on almost every major piece. I’m not sure when exactly the damage happened since the delivery men handled it properly but it was already damaged before then. But even with the dents it still looks good and assembly was fairly simple. I did confuse the orientation a few times but other than that a screwdriver is all you need. The metal is fairly thin so it which explains the dents which can be pushed out with enough force. The fire box seemed nice until I noticed there was no real way of cleaning it out without a vacuum. So I recommend putting an aluminum pan or something to catch your ash and smaller pieces of charcoal. As far as the smoke staying inside, that didn’t happen all that well, smoke leaked from almost everywhere. A bit of smoke from the fire box and alot more smoke around the main grill. I’m new to using a smoker grill so I didn’t really know how to control the temperature at first and it didn’t help that the vent on the firebox didn’t seal properly. I was able to smoke 3 racks of ribs in maybe 8 hours. The temperature on the left side near the firebox was usually about a 50+ difference in degrees compared to the right. I also used a pizza stone which I haven’t heard or seen anyone do but I figured it would help maintain a consistent heat. Overall I don’t think it was a bad investment for someone looking to get into smoking. I would say be prepared to spend some money patching up the leaks and practice how much wood you need to be adding to keep a consistent temperature. I didn’t and my temperatures fluctuated so much.

The lid FELL OFF right in the middle of grilling

Bought this grill a month or so ago & was IN LOVE with it…until all of a sudden the entire lid FELL OFF right in the middle of grilling pork chops! It was a good 200 degrees hot too, luckily I didn’t have anything laying down on the ground behind it or else things could of gotten scary!I also have a 2 year old and a 1 year old that are still learning the meaning of “HOT. STAY AWAY.”so you can imagine the heart attack I had when it happened. This is my only complaint, the female in me can’t seem to fix it so it’s now very much a hassle for me to grill.I will also say that three days after this happened my grill cover finally came in, maybe if I would of had a cover on it and not left it exposed to the elements this wouldn’t of happened.. but if that is such an issue I would assume a cover would of came with it..Other than that I love this grill..

    Okay for the price.

Make no mistake, this is a cheap grill. It’s priced that way, so keep that in mind, but here are a few things I don’t like:1. Temp. The instructions say not to exceed 400F, but the grill will easily do that when closed with even a moderate amount of charcoal. If only using the smoker, it can be very hard to maintain a constant temp. When it gets low, you add some coals and the temp spikes over 300F and takes a while to come back down.2. Ash. There’s no way to empty the ash from the offset smoker besides a shop-vac. There’s no opening in the bottom or removable tray without holes. There is just the tray with holes to get air to the coals. Part of the problem with this is that smoking for 8+ hours creates a lot of ash, and you can’t get rid of it along the way. So towards the end, it’s very hard to keep coals lit since they are sinking into ash.3. The top rack. This rack “swings” back when you open the lid. Cool, except whatever is on that rack is now dripping onto the inside of the lid. So you really can’t cook things up there. I guess you could toast buns, but that’s about it.4. Grates. The main grates (and those in the offset smoker) are thin. Not stainless or cast iron. They do appear to be coated, but I don’t see them lasting long. They even bend a little just cleaning them with a grill brush. They also don’t fit tightly in the grill, so they move around a little. The only good thing is that they are light and easy to remove.Overall, for the price, the grill is fine. But it requires more work to cook with and clean than I’d hoped. I’ll keep it for a while, but then I’ll spend the extra money for something better.

    BEST GRILL FOR BEGINNERS

The media could not be loaded.

This Charcoal grill is Better than any lame gas grill I used, I’m not an expert at grilling but I made some awesome burgers and weenies on this thing, it was easy to not burn the food, it comes with a Smoker and overall this is the grill u want to use for a cookout/bbq. It DOES need lighter fluid I tried using other things to light it but as long as u let the lighter fluid burn with the coal till the coal is white and flamed your good to go, although I didn’t get no lighter fluid taste when I ate the first few batches of burgers so either way u should be fine! THE ASSEMBLY was the only problem I had, it took forever to assemble and I recommend getting a friend who knows how to assemble a grill already it makes it much faster but at the end of the day once that’s out of the way, you got a nice grill for a cookout and it’s easy to clean!

    Good beginners grill!

The grill is great for beginners. Not a grill for a child like mentioned in earlier reviews, I wouldn’t want a super tall grill anyways. My Fiancé is almost 6ft & I’m 5″8. We don’t have any trouble using the grill at all. To us the height is great. The grill was easy to put together over all, but is always easier with an Xtra helping hand. We have used the grill twice now since getting it last week & both times the food cooked nicely. We have not tried the smoker part yet, so that’s why I put a 4 on temperature control for now since we haven’t tried that part yet. Clean up after is easy. The only thing, so far, I would say that could be improved is sturdyness. Not that it’s not sturdy, just not 100% sturdy, so does have a tiny wobble to it when moving it around. I wouldn’t leave it outside if you have stray cats, or other animals, around that would jump on it.

Good product at a bargain price

Pretty good product, especially at a bargain price. It is sturdy and seems like it is made to last. On the downside, if you are not good at assembling things, maybe this is not for you. Assembly was nearly an all day struggle for me, and I’m pretty good at this type of thing.I bought it mostly to use as a smoker. I’ve smoked ribs twice now. I’m not sure the built in temperature gauge is accurate. My ribs were cooked fully in just 2 hours and a little dry but with a great smoky taste. I used charcoal briquettes and mesquite wood chunks for smoke and maintained temperature control at around 250 degrees in the cooking chamber. I probably need a bit more practice. Next up; baby back ribs!To sum up, I’m happy with the product and I need to experiment a bit with temperature control as my ribs seemed a little dry and over done after 2 hours. Most internet bbq blogs and videos say time to smoke should be about 4 hours at 225-250 degrees.

Not nearly as bad as everyone says

Instructions have a lot of misprints and the legs were labeled incorrectly. My husband and I put the whole bottom together before realizing that the holes pointed the wrong way to attach the body. It did stink that we had to re-do that part, but we had a fun afternoon in the sun figuring it out together. Once we realized you need to use the instructions as just a general guide and then just use some common sense, we got it together quickly. Used the large grill area two days in a row and the temperature gauge works fine; it gets the job done and makes some delicious (vegan!) bbq foods. It is not short like another reviewer said; I am 5’9, my husband’s 5’11 and there is not an issue with height. It is higher up than my old small Walmart grill, which was also fine. Seems like a fake competitor review. It is, however, cheap for its large size and having the smoker attached. If you expect the grill of a lifetime for $100 you’ll be disappointed, but that is also common sense and it’s your own fault if you don’t have any. My item did not have any dents and I don’t think it is ‘very cheaply’ made. On the contrary, I think it’s nice and lightweight, easy to move, easy to empty, quick to heat up and very nice-looking in the yard. It was also affordable; I think it is worth the price I paid and I expect to get at least ten years out of it. I have not used the smoker and really have no intention of doing so for now; I got it for the grill and so that wouldn’t factor into my review anyhow.

    Good father’s day present

My husband put this together mostly by himself, until I got home and helped with the last few steps. He made some delicious burgers on it and hopefully once the weather cooperates again, he’ll take over cooking more nights a week. We haven’t gotten to use the smoker part yet, hopefully soon.
